At Parkwood, we celebrate water baptisms on New Life Sunday. Take a look at what to expect leading up to your baptism.
What to Expect

Attend the class.
On the Sunday night before New Life Sunday, an information class is held at 5 PM in the Parkwood cafe to learn what to expect and prepare for your baptism.

Share your story.
On the day of your baptism, you and the other candidates will have the opportunity to share your testimony with the church. As a church family, we’ll be there to support and celebrate with you.

Rise to new life.
Following the testimonies, the service moves into worship as each candidate is baptized in Jesus’ name, celebrating the new life you have in Him!

Water baptism is a step of obedience to Jesus’ command (Matthew 28:19) and a way to publicly declare your faith in Him. It doesn’t save you or make you a church member, but it is a meaningful expression of the new life you’ve received in Christ.

We recognize that some churches practice infant baptism, but in scripture, baptism always follows a personal decision to trust in Jesus. That’s why we encourage baptism for those who have personally received Christ as Saviour, typically after a child is around ten years old and able to understand their faith.

Yes. Jesus set the example by being baptized Himself and instructed His followers to baptize others (Matthew 3:13; 28:19). Baptism is a meaningful step of obedience for every believer.

Yes. Baptism is a powerful picture of what Christ has done in your life. Going under the water represents leaving your old life behind, and coming up reflects your new life in Christ, walking in His resurrection power (Romans 6:3-6; Colossians 2:6).

Baptism is an important act of following Jesus for every believer. It publicly shows that your sins are forgiven and that you are fully committed to Him.

The Bible shows that baptism was a key part of the early church’s response to the gospel. After Peter’s first sermon at Pentecost, he called on people to “repent and be baptized, every one of you” (Acts 2:38), and about three thousand people were baptized that same day (Acts 2:41).

Once your baptism application is received, we’ll provide a detailed list of clothing and items you’ll need for your baptism so you can come prepared and focus on the day!
